Engaging lawyers and journalists to strengthen FoRB in Sri Lanka

  • Projektnummer CKU-23-TB-06
  • Bevillingshaver Frederiksberg Integrationsforening (FIF)
  • Partner National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka
  • Land Sri Lanka

The project aims to train lawyers and journalists in hotspot areas for religious tensions in Sri Lanka on the Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) to enhance their understanding and knowledge of FoRB issues. By doing so, the project seeks to improve the quality of reportage on FoRB in both mainstream and alternate media platforms and strengthen FoRB litigation by equipping legal professionals with the necessary skills and expertise in this area. To achieve these outcomes, the project will also develop value-added resources in the form of training curriculums on FoRB to serve as practical tools for engaging lawyers on FoRB litigation and guiding journalists on ethical and quality reporting of FoRB-related matters. The project will also work with like-minded networks to make available the resources developed, to be adapted and used in regions and contexts facing similar FoRB related challenges, beyond Sri Lanka. Ultimately, the project aims to create a more informed and engaged media and legal community, contributing to the promotion and defence of FoRB in Sri Lanka as well as the global promotion and defence of FoRB by fostering greater capacity to address FoRB challenges in similar contexts.
