Protecting Children through Child Friendly Churches 2.0

The overall aim of this project is to protect 55.223 vulnerable children from abuse and exploitation through child friendly churches countering harmful norms and practices. This intervention will build upon the progress made in the first phase and continue with the work of transforming churches into centers of child protection. To this end, a two-dimensional community-based strategy will be applied to: (outcome 1) ensure that certified churches foster child-friendly environments and effective child protection measures, and (outcome 2) strengthen collaborations between local authorities, denominational councils, CSOs, and churches. The strengthening of systems within churches will entail enhancing the capacity of mentors and champions, as well as promoting child-led and child-centered activities. As to new child friendly churches, focus will be placed on the Union for Development of Apostolic and Zionist Churches or UDACIZA, the council with the most unfriendly systems to children.
