The main objective is to promote restorative and Child-Friendly Justice responses, best practices, systems and structures for Child offenders, victims, witnesses, and children at risk in the poor communities of Lusaka and Ndola Districts, in Zambia. The project will employ advocacy strategies to push for improved standards, through implementation of the child justice provisions of the new Children’s Code Act no.12 (2022). The project will thus build the capacity of key duty bearers in the Justice system (Judges, Magistrates, Police and Social Welfare Officers) . The project will provide free legal aid to 600 affected children and raise awareness in the communities through drama and music as well through the media to get the public demanding for diversion options and rights of child offenders and victims. It is expected that the project will bring about systemic change in the Judicial System and the perception of the community.
