Developing an Annual Report on the Status of Freedom of Religion or Belief in Sri Lanka

The project aims to shed light on the status of FoRB in Sri Lanka by developing a robust methodology to measure and identify trends that contribute to violations or protections of FoRB in the country. This will be presented in an annual report for 2024, which will include key insights, case studies, and recommendations for addressing gaps and challenges, and for promoting FoRB in the Sri Lankan context. The report’s comprehensive analysis of the socio-political, legal, and cultural factors, as well as government policies and social attitudes that impact the landscape of religious freedom in the country, will provide insights into the broader societal and political dynamics influencing religious freedom in the country and will be an useful tool for NCEASL and other actors working on FoRB advocacy. Further, through stakeholder engagement and dissemination efforts, the project seeks to raise awareness and advance religious freedom in Sri Lanka both domestically and internationally.
