The intervention strengthens Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) in South Unguja and North Pemba, Zanzibar, by equipping Muslim and Christian leaders to preach and advocate for FoRB and by creating safe spaces where women and youth participate meaningfully in interfaith and civic life. Implemented by ZANZIC (ELCT-ECD) with Danmission and PROCMURA, the project blends capacity building, service delivery and advocacy: two multi-day FoRB trainings and two preaching workshops; participant-led sermons; 12 media talk shows; a joint high-level interfaith forum; leadership training for women’s barazas, peace and girls’ clubs; and 20 community dialogues. Outcome: religious leaders publicly uphold FoRB and women and youth claim their rights in inclusive platforms. Direct participants: 352; indirect reach ≈119,000 across congregations, families, schools and media—laying foundations for sustained, locally owned FoRB practice.
