The project aims to strengthen child protection systems and family resilience in the Kannakipuram and Ponnahar Grama Niladhari (GN) Divisions of the Kilinochchi District located in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka, leading to the minimisation of child institutionalisation in Sri Lanka. The interventions are targeted toward educating and capacitating adults and children, government stakeholders, and religious leaders in the target locations. The project strategy will address the systemic household and community level challenges that lead to family separation, unnecessary institutionalisation that separates children from a family environment, putting them at risk of abuse and exploitation. It responds to the interlinked structural, economic and social factors that undermine family care by combining prevention focused systems, strengthening household resilience support and community-based child protection mechanism.
